EXCELLENT NEWS! The rebuild has arrived, I have the gaskets, the transmission is back together. I'll get some pics up tomorrow night.

June 3rd, 2009

After a bit of a layoff, finally, it's back to work. I bought ye olde entire transmission rebuild kit to get my two gaskets.

These bastards:
Image

The reason I had to have the gaskets is because the tail shaft that was installed was about 3 inches too short (story of my life).
Image

Here's what it looks like without the tail shaft, if you care.
Image

Once I had the gaskets in about 5 minutes, the tail shaft was back on, and I was able to test fit the drive shaft again. With a sprinkle of pixie dust, IT FITS!
Image

Of course, I had to take it right back out, because the kit doesn't come with a new rear seal which happens to still be in the tail shaft housing I removed and cannot be salvaged. I could beat it out, but it would just be ruined from the beating, so tomorrow, I get a new rear seal and we're off to the races.

After seeing the drive shaft fit, I had to reinstall the servo, valve body assembly and the fluid tubes that had to be removed to get the fucking tail shaft out. Sadly, this takes more than 5 minutes, more like an hour and a half. It could be faster, but it's very important if you want the vehicle to actually move, so extreme care must be taken.
This is the shit I had to put back in.
Image
Yes, I had to lay under the fucker to put it all back in, which didn't make it any easier. But, it's all done now.

I'm having real problems getting this fucking video exported. It's being a real bitch, but I'm working on it...

June 5th and 6th, 2009

In the in between times, I decided to start on a little paint stripping.

I guess I'll sand the rest down to the metal. Blasting is a bit harsh.

My rear disc brake conversion kit has arrived, so in prep for that debachle, it's time to get the axles ready.

Blasted:

Seals and bearings maybe tomorrow.

Also, I took time out to paint a brake caliper just to test out my caliper paint

It lives!!!!!

I saw that smoke coming from the header and thought it was the paint. Must have got pretty hot with the waterpump not working. She does have a nice rumble to her though!

BTW, where can I pick up the soundtrack, on iTunes?

I think the soundtrack was Conway Twitty's Greatest Hits. I'm certain it's available on iTunes.

June 13th, 2009

Reinstalled the rear axles today.

One axle with new bearing and lug studs installed.
Image

New seal in the axle housing.
Image

Axle installed along with rear disc brake conversion primary mount plate and spacer.
Image

Gear is thick. It's a bit tough to pour at room temperature so I put mine in the oven at 150F for about 20 minutes. It loosens right up.

Power steering pump. Once I found the right pump, I found that I was going to have to pull the pulley and reinstall it on the new pump. Wasn't really a problem, as I needed to refurb the pulled and brackets anyway. Trouble was, I had never done that before, but I must say it went swimmingly.

Ran a full test of the rear disc brake conversion kit today. It went rather well.

They look pretty sweet if you ask me, and I haven't even painted the calipers yet.

I haven't quit, I just haven't done anything noteworthy. This, I believe is my typical modus operandi.

It's coming slowly BC, real slow.

Just a bunch of sandblasting, priming, fiberglassing, sanding, priming, sanding, priming....so on and so forth. It's sad that I've only taken like 8 pictures since last post, but here go da pix.

Yes, the second color is almost the same color as the primer, I didn't consider that when I bought it, and yes, it's fucking hard to see when you're painting it. Note to self, stop doing stupid shit.

Thanks Mac. I can't wait for it to be finished, long way to go yet though. I did however order my tires and wheels today. Should be here Wednesday or Thursday
